Brake machine
On some modifications of Renault 19, at the request of the client, and on the 16-valve modification, an anti-lock braking system is installed as standard (abbreviated: ABS) Bosch company. In this case, the electronic units take over some of the functions of adjusting the brake system and prevent, for example, when braking to a complete stop, a dangerous uncontrolled skid of the car.
ABS - for disciplined drivers
Many drivers believe that certain safety aids fitted to their vehicle, such as wide or winter tires, all-wheel drive, or a large number of headlights, allow them to drive very risky. However, very often they have to «come down to earth» and deal with harsh reality. In the same way, the ABS cannot perform a miracle, although many people want to believe it. ABS only provides additional safety in a normal, relaxed driving style, as the braking distance on the road is not shortened in all situations.
- ABS provides when braking to a complete stop «optimal jerky braking», so that a complete blocking of the wheels is simply excluded.
- When braking to a complete stop, the wheels rotate even on slippery ice so that you can keep the car from skidding.
- The main quality of ABS is that the car remains steerable even under heavy braking. This, however, requires a stronger turn of the steering wheel.
- Therefore, practice on a special circuit to brake to a complete stop with the wheels turning and try to go around safe obstacles.
- Wherein «ruthlessly» fully depress the brake pedal with your foot - the brake force will be dispensed for you by the ABS. The system works both when braking in a straight line and when braking with the wheels turned.
- Don't be surprised by the pulsating brake pedal. If the ABS is working, these pedal oscillations are quite normal.
- In extreme cases, even with ABS, you will have to release the brake pedal to be able to cope with the extreme situation when cornering with vigorous braking.
