Speedometer and speedometer cable

This movement speed meter registers it, to some extent, electrically, namely by the production of eddy currents that twist the aluminum cylinder around the arrow axis, overcoming the resistance of the helical spring. The speedometer does not measure exact distance or speed, it «thinks» revolutions of the speedometer cable drive in the gearbox housing and translates them into kilometers. How many revolutions of the cable the car travels one kilometer on the road depends on the size of the tires and the gear ratio of the axles. The transformation ratio of the speedometer drive is 21:19. A trembling speedometer needle usually indicates that the speedometer cable has a kink and will soon break. In some cars, the cable drive in the gearbox will also deteriorate.

Removing the speedometer cable

1. Remove the combined instrument panel.

2. Disconnect the speedometer cable from the combined instrument panel and pull it out of the transmission by squeezing its safety clips.

3. Disconnect the speedometer connector.

4. Pull the rubber-tipped speedometer cable out of the front wall.

5. When installing, insert the cable without kinks and bends into the front wall and pay attention to the correct position of the rubber tip.
