1. On illustrations 2.4 the location of the thermostat is indicated by the letter «T».
2. To remove this component, drain the coolant (see chapter 2) and disconnect the coolant supply hose from the nozzle. Remove the thermostat housing from the cylinder head and remove the thermostat. Mark the thermostat before removing it.
3. The thermostat cannot be repaired and should be replaced if damaged. Do a simple check:
4. Hang the thermostat on a wire and place it in a container of cold water.
5. Hang a thermometer nearby.
6. Gradually heat up the water and check if the main thermostat valve opens. This should take place at around 81°C (4 cylinder engine) and correspondingly at a temperature of 85°C (V6 engine).
10. At a temperature of about 93°C, the valve should open fully. During this test, the thermostat valve must move at least 7.5 mm out of the thermostat.
11. If the thermostat does not work as described, replace it.
12. When installing the thermostat, use a new gasket. Apply sealant to the gasket. Before putting on the collars, carefully inspect them.
13. Fill with coolant (see chapter 2).
14. Let the engine run to check if it warms up.
