1. If you have at your disposal, a specially designed connector (Mot. 836), which can be installed together with a pressure gauge, the engine oil pressure can be measured with the engine running.
2. On a 4-cylinder engine, the pressure gauge is installed in one of the four plugs on the side of the cylinder head, and on a V6 engine, in a plug between the oil filter and the front of the engine. In this case, proceed as follows:
3. Warm up the engine to 80°C.
4. Turn off the engine and screw on the pressure gauge connector.
5. Start the engine and let it idle. The reading on the pressure gauge must be within specifications. Engine oil pressure is not the same for all engines.
6. Increase RPM by the specified amount and see if the engine oil pressure rises to the specified value. Be aware of the differences between individual engines. The values given refer to a new engine. If the engine has been running for a long time, it is possible that the amount of engine oil pressure at idle will decrease.
7. Disconnect the pressure gauge and install the appropriate plugs. Very low engine oil pressure indicates likely damage to the oil pump or engine wear.
