Apply the parking brake.
Place the gear shift lever in neutral or the automatic transmission selector in position P. Wait until the engine cools down.
While the engine is hot
- Avoid putting your hands in the rotation zone of the engine cooling system fan; it may suddenly start rotating;
- Do not open the coolant expansion tank cap; the cooling system is under pressure. Avoid spilling liquids on a hot engine as they may ignite
When carrying out inspection work with the engine running, beware of rotating parts (for example, V-belt pulleys, generator, cooling system fan blades, etc.) and high voltage in the ignition system.

Engine compartment of a car with a diesel engine:1. reservoir for windshield washer fluid; 2. additional reservoir with brake fluid; 3. expansion tank; 4. battery; 5. air filter; 6. reservoir for power steering fluid; 7. oil filler cap; 8. Dipstick for measuring engine oil level
When servicing and repairing the fuel system or electrical equipment:
- always disconnect the battery from the on-board network;
- do not smoke near the engine;
- never work near open flames;
- always keep «at hand» working fire extinguisher.
Do not mix up fluids when adding them, as this will cause serious disruption to the operation of units and systems.
In order to promptly detect oil and liquid leaks, it is necessary to regularly inspect the parking area under the car. If there are stains of oil or operating fluid, check the tightness of the vehicle's components and systems at a service center.
