You will need: a flat blade screwdriver, an awl, a knife, a set for gluing glasses.
It looks like a set for gluing glasses. It consists of a tube with glue, a tube tip, an activator / cleaner, a primer, a set of stops.
Note. There may be slight differences in the instructions for use of kits from different manufacturers. In this regard, when performing this operation, be guided by the instructions for the kit you purchased.
Note. To remove glued glass, it is convenient to use a steel string.
1. Remove the windshield wiper arms along with the brushes (see «Replacing the windshield wiper gearmotor»).
2. Open the hood and remove the front fender trims, overcoming the elastic resistance of their caps. Then close the hood.
Attention! To avoid breakage of the front fender trim caps, remove them in sequence. First, move the pad towards the center of the car to remove the piston from the body, and then lift the pad up to remove the second piston.
3. Open both front doors.
4. Remove the roof lining from the flanging of the front pillars and take them to the sides.
5. Remove facings of forward racks (see «Removal and installation of facings of salon»).
6. Remove the interior rearview mirror (see «Removal and installation of an internal mirror»).
7. Slightly pry the glass with a screwdriver, pierce the adhesive seam with a pointed tool (for example, an awl) and pull the string through the hole.
8. For convenience, you can attach screwdrivers to the ends of the string, which will serve as handles.
9. Saw the glue line along the entire perimeter of the glass with a string (you may need an assistant to perform this operation).
10. Remove glass from the car.
Attention! Take precautions when working with glass. Damaged glass can break unexpectedly.
11. Cut off the old seam, leaving a thin layer of glue (1.0-2.0 mm).
12. Apply activator...
13.... on the edge of the glass and the window opening around the entire perimeter.
14. Apply primer around glass perimeter and window opening.
Attention! Do not primer over old adhesive residue.
15. Install rubber pads of the same thickness throughout the opening to prevent glass from contacting body elements.
16. Within 30 minutes after applying the primer, evenly apply glue to the window opening (layer thickness 0.5 cm) and around the glass.
17. Install the glass on the car.
18. Reinstall the roof lining.
19. Press and fix the glass in any way possible (e.g. with masking tape). The polymerization period of the adhesive is at least 2–3 hours. During this time, the car must not be subjected to any external influences. Even a sudden closing of the door can lead to an increase in air pressure in the cabin and, as a result, to the separation of the glass. It is advisable to start operating the car after gluing the glass no earlier than 24 hours later.
20. Establish facings of forward racks.
21. Install the front fender trims and interior rearview mirror.
22. Establish levers of a cleaner of a windshield together with brushes.
23. Glass of a window of a back replace similarly.
If for some reason the new windshield does not have a rear-view mirror mounting bracket, you can glue the bracket to the glass yourself. This will require:
- adhesive brand Loctite;
- mirror mounting bracket;
- glass pencil or crayon;
- alcohol for washing;
- clean paper towel;
- fine-grained sandpaper number 320-360.
11.3. Marking the position of the mirror mounting bracket on the windshield: A - the size from the upper edge of the glass to the lower edge of the base of the mirror mounting bracket
The markings on the windshield for mounting the mirror mounting bracket are shown in fig. 11.3.
1. Measure on the inner surface of the glass along the axis of symmetry the distance A from the upper edge of the glass to the lower edge of the bracket base, equal to 125 mm.
2. Attach the base of the bracket to the outer surface of the glass, aligning its bottom edge with the marking line. Mark the contour of the base of the bracket on the glass with a glassgraph or crayon. Draw a circle near the mounting location of the bracket with a slightly larger diameter than the base of the bracket in order to limit the cleaning area of the inner surface of the glass.
3. Wash the inside of the glass with soapy water and dry with a paper towel.
4. Wipe the inside of the glass with a paper towel moistened with alcohol.
5. Sand the marked area on the inside of the glass with 320-360 grit sandpaper, wipe with a paper towel dampened with alcohol, and allow to dry.
6. Apply adhesive to glass surfaces and bracket base following instructions from adhesive manufacturer.
7. Attach the bracket to the inner surface of the glass according to the marking and press it firmly for 30–60 s.
8. After 5 minutes, remove excess glue from the glass with a paper towel moistened with alcohol.
