Having assessed the opportunities of the markets of Eastern Europe, Asia and Africa in time, the company's marketers decided to enter these territories not with a converted car from the existing model range, but with a completely new model.
The design of the Logan model began in 1998. The project received the intrafactory index X90. The designers were tasked with creating a compact family car with a starting price of 5,000 euros. Thanks to the use of computer simulations, not a single pre-series sample was created, which saved about 20 million euros. In total, 360 million euros were spent on design work - a record low amount for the development of a new car. To reduce the cost, the principle of wide unification with other models of the concern was applied: the front suspension was borrowed from Renault Clio II, the rear suspension and heating system were from Renault Modus, and the electronic control unit was from Renault Tv / ingo. cooling system deflectors and gearshift handle - for Espace, gearbox and clutch - for Renault Megane of the second generation. But, without a doubt, Logan borrowed most from the Clio: engines, steering, rear brakes, instrument panel, door handles, steering wheel and shift paddles.
The first generation Renault Logan sedan was introduced in 2004. In 2006, the premiere of the station wagon version with the abbreviation MCV took place (Multi Convivial Vehicle — «car for all occasions»), Unlike most modern station wagons, the Logan MCV has a double-leaf tailgate, which makes it look like a commercial «heels». By the way, many owners use this car as a delivery vehicle. Especially for this category of buyers, modifications were created in the form of a Logan Van cargo van and a Logan Pick-Up pickup truck.
Reliability, decent quality and affordable price have made Logan a sales leader, and many countries around the world have acquired a license to assemble the model. In particular, Logan MCV called Lada Largus began to be assembled at the VAZ plant in Russia.
In connection with such popularity, the model was first restyled in 2008, and in 2012 the premiere of the second generation Renault Logan took place at the Paris Motor Show. Like its predecessor, the new car is produced in different countries and sold under different names. It is noteworthy that, for example, in Turkey, the second generation Renault Logan is produced under the name Renault Symbol. Thus, the model is simultaneously the third generation of the Symbol compact sedan, the two previous generations of which had a common platform with Renault Clio hatchbacks. In general, Renault Clio Sedan, Renault Thalia, Nissan Platina were added to the old market names.
The premiere of the second-generation Logan MCV station wagon under the Dacia brand took place a year later at the Geneva Motor Show. The trunk of the model received one lifting door instead of two swing doors, like its predecessor. In addition, the Logan MCV is now only offered in a five-seat version. Thus, the model is no longer associated with a delivery van, but is a respectable family car.
The new Logan managed to retain all the features that made the previous generation model popular: a spacious interior, a huge trunk, a reliable energy-intensive suspension and an economical, unpretentious engine under the hood. However, the appearance of the car has changed significantly. The company's designers were able to retain the recognizable features of the old Logan (e.g. door frame profile or C-pillar curve), make the car more attractive and modern. The new head optics goes well with the enlarged grille with chrome inserts. The new bumper is distinguished by well-designed areas of the central air intake and fog lamps. Attractive taillights have changed the back of both the sedan and station wagon almost beyond recognition. In general, the new Logan has become more rounded and swift.
The interior of the novelty has also changed significantly. Excessive modesty and utility are a thing of the past: the dashboard was decorated with chrome inserts, and the seats became more comfortable. Already in the basic version, it is possible to adjust the steering wheel in height, a passenger airbag in the front seat, air conditioning, front electric windows and a radio tape recorder with a USB port appeared. In more expensive trim levels, the buyer receives a leather steering wheel, electric heated exterior mirrors, cruise control, parking sensors, climate control, fog lights and a color display of the MediaNAV multimedia system with navigation. In other words, this is already a car that can compete even with more expensive models.
The volume of the luggage compartment of the Logan sedan is 510 liters, and if you fold the rear seat backs, then the useful space for luggage will almost double. The Logan MCV station wagon boasts an even more spacious luggage compartment: 573 liters in normal condition and as much as 1518 liters after folding the rear seats.
The second-generation Logan powertrain range includes both gasoline engines. as well as diesel engines. In addition to the eight- and 16-valve 1.6-liter gasoline engines already familiar from the previous generation, with a capacity of 82 and 102 hp, respectively. with., as well as a 1.5-liter diesel engine with a capacity of 84 liters. With. the car received a new economical 1.2-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine with a capacity of 73 liters. With. All engines are equipped only with mechanical five-speed gearboxes.
The new Logan is practical, reliable, economical and attractive at an affordable price. Currently, its assembly is carried out at the factories of Romania and Russia. Turkey, Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, India, Iran and Morocco.
