Rear wheel hub bearing — removal and installation

A defect in the rear wheel hub bearing is manifested by noise during cornering, difficult running of unbraked wheels. The bearing is firmly seated on the hub, so it can only be removed and installed using a suitable press in the workshop. The bearing must not be knocked out with a suitable punch. A pressed out bearing must be replaced with a new one.

Removing

1. Remove the hub together with the brake drum/brake disc.

2. Remove the hub bearing circlip on the brake drum or brake disc (see illustration).



3. Press the bearing out of the brake drum by installing a small piece of pipe 1 of a suitable diameter on it (see illustration).



4. Clean the hub with a rag soaked in alcohol.

Installation

5. Press the hub bearing with a press and a small piece of pipe 2 into the brake drum until it stops against the protrusion of the hub (see illustration 15.3).

6. Secure the bearing with a new circlip.

7. Install the hub.
