- raise the rear of the car and place supports under the body;
- remove the wheel from the desired side;
Pic. 7.12. Removing the hub cap
- Using a puller, remove the hub cap from the center of the wheel. In the absence of a puller, you can use a screwdriver with a wide slot and a hammer (pic. 7.12);
Pic. 7.13. Loosening the wheel nut
- unscrew the hub nut and remove the washer (pic. 7.13);
- release the parking brake lever. Under the vehicle, loosen the parking brake cable by loosening the lock nut. To do this, you must first remove the heat shields that cover the work area;
Pic. 7.14. Displacement of the adjustment column with a screwdriver through the bolt hole: 1 - squeezing block
- insert a slotted screwdriver into one of the threaded holes in the brake drum for the wheel bolts and move the adjuster post to release its protrusion from the brake shoe (pic. 7.14). For abduction
- the expansion lever from the block, move it back;
- remove the brake drum from the wheel hub axle;
- clean the drum from dirt and dust. Please note that dust from brake pad wear products is carcinogenic, so do not blow it off, but use a special cleaning agent;
- inspect the drum for cracks that may appear around the wheel bolt holes, chips or other damage. Replace both drums in case of such damage.
On the working surface of the drum, shallow risks are allowed; with significant recesses, both drums must be machined to the dimensions indicated at the beginning of the section.
Measure the diameter of the drum in several mutually perpendicular planes. If oval wear is found that cannot be removed by turning, replace both brake drums.
Installation order:
- in the case of using new drums, clean them of conservation grease;
Pic. 7.15. Stop lug on parking brake release lever (arrow) should rest against the edge of the block
- make sure that the stop lug on the parking brake release lever rests against the rib of the shoe (pic. 7.15);
- lubricate the hub axle with a thin layer of grease and put the drum on it without distortion, gradually pushing it into place until it stops;
- install a washer and a new nut on the hub axle. Tighten the nut to the specified torque. Install the hub cap;
- press the brake pedal several times to set the pads to the working position;
- adjust parking brake (see below);
